Great bike path right along the river. It's a gravel path, but easy to ride if you have the right tires.

There are several historic houses here. Although a large fire destroyed some of the church over 100 years ago, many of the old buildings have been preserved or restored and some have been rebuilt based on the original model.

Here a boulder shows that there were inhabitants in this area over 1000 (!) years ago. 1000 year anniversary in 1977.

Was it once a fire pond? Very likely. Today it is a small pond with water lilies, seating and a work of art (no further information) right on the bank.

The market place used to be on the spot where the Gehrder pump stands today. The Gehrder markets were held there, which developed into important livestock markets for horses, cattle and piglets. People and animals demanded water, and so it was decided to build a well. The first Gehrder pump was built in 1862, which was encased in a wooden box filled with peat to prevent the pump from freezing in winter. On top was a square petroleum lantern - the first public street lighting in Gehrde!
