The observation tower on the Hohe Mechtien is the highest observation tower in the Wendland and at 142 meters, the Hohe Mechtien is also the highest elevation in the Wendland (to call it a mountain would be an exaggeration).

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gülden belongs to the parish of Zernien. The small, rectangular half-timbered building dates from 1786/87. A tall tower with allegedly 162 steps giving a good view of the area far above the treetops. On the way from Gülden you come to the tower well, the way coming from the south consists of field and forest paths and is quite sandy on a few hundred meters! The tower can be climbed for free at any time.

Also for dogs walkable. Only the bottom 4 levels are made of lattice, all others are made of wood. Hiking hut with hiking book to enter is at the bottom of the tower.

From the trail parking lot in place Stranz leads a beautiful forest road to the Hohen Mechtin. On the High Mechtin is located at the foot of the observation tower, a refuge. The path is well marked, but you can also navigate with the Komoot proposal. From the tower (if I have not counted, there are 152 steps to the platform) you have a fantastic view all around.
