According to old documents, the mill must have once been connected to a brewery and distillery. The mill was first mentioned in 1551 and originally had four waterwheels and four grinding gears. In 1653, the mill became a compulsory mill for the Hausvogtei (bailiwick) of Meinersen and the Gografschaft (county of Edemissen). Not all villages were subject to the Welf line residing in Celle. Thus, the communities belonging to Hildesheim and the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel refused to accept this arrangement. The private mill in Hillerse, of equal size and, due to its proximity, an intimate enemy of the Meinersen mill, also applied to be recognized as a compulsory mill, but this was rejected. In 1849, a flood destroyed a large part of the mill. The repairs took seven months and cost 1,200 thalers. After various tenants, the mill was sold in September 1864 to the mill owner Friedrich Mollenhauer from Steyerberg. However, the mill was destroyed again in 1894. A maid, motivated by revenge for "incest" that had been kept secret, set fire to the mill.
