The sand is compacted and contains small pieces of coal throughout. It's a bizarre setting, almost like a lunar landscape. These formations also remind me of a canyon.

Only von Delius was a racing driver for Autounion. He grew up in the southern Brandenburg municipality of Plessa, where his father had been the director of the local brown coal works since 1910 and, in this capacity, had the world's first overburden conveyor bridge built according to his plans in 1924, which revolutionized open-cast brown coal mining. A collision with Richard Seaman at the 1937 German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring brought an abrupt end to his promising career on July 25, 1937. While Seaman escaped with minor injuries, Ernst von Delius succumbed to his serious injuries on July 26, 1937 in Bonn. In memory of the von Delius family's achievements, Von-Delius-Straße in Plessa was named after them.
