In 1636, the Carmelite Order, along with Burgrave Metternich, came to Beilstein. In May 1686, the Carmelite Fathers laid the foundation stone of a monastery on the so-called Rammerberg, and on June 10, 1691, the foundation stone for the monastery church. As if by a miracle, the Prior of Beilstein managed to avoid the destruction of the newly built monastery by the passing French troops in 1689, like Beilstein Castle and other nearby towns, but rather to remain untouched. After the French withdrew in 1697, the Carmelites and the Beilsteiners were granted the opportunity to flourish and flourish for about 100 years.
