The church is a beautiful contrast to the impressive castle ruins and rocks in the surrounding area: peace, history and nature combined in a small village.

The Baunachtal stretches between Ebern and Baunach and is a typical Franconian river valley, embedded in the rolling hills of the Haßberge Nature Park.

The castle, towering 150 meters above the Weisach Valley, is a widely visible symbol of power and history. First documented in 1126, it served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Stein for centuries. In 1895, it passed to the Barons of Rotenhan and finally to the Haßberge district in 1972. Upcycling with a difference: An old transformer house has been given a new use. In collaboration with the State Association for the Protection of Birds and the Altenstein Local History Society, a new home for birds and insects has been created.
