8월 28, 2025, St. Ursula Chapel Alsleben
The St. Ursula Chapel is a pilgrimage church dedicated to Saint Ursula, dating back to the mid-18th century. It is located one and a half kilometers southeast of Alsleben near Bad Königshofen in Lower Franconia, in a wooded area close to the Bavarian-Thuringian border. As early as the 15th century, a church dedicated to Saint Ursula stood on the mountain. This was destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525, but was soon replaced by a small new chapel. In 1704, the widow of the Sternberg castle builder Wolff Dietrich Truchseß von Wetzhausen (Baroness Eva Rosina) donated the relics. As a result, the chapel quickly became a popular pilgrimage destination, attracting up to 10,000 pilgrims annually. In 1750, construction began on a new, larger church, which was consecrated in 1754. In 1803, St. Ursula's was closed, but after protests, it reopened in 1811. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Ursula

Saint Ursula and her (allegedly 11,000) companions, to whom this chapel is dedicated, are – alongside the Three Wise Men – arguably the most famous Cologne saints. According to the legendary biography, Ursula was an English king's daughter who, along with her companions, made a pilgrimage to Rome. On the return journey down the Rhine, the Huns under King Attila besieged Cologne. They murdered everyone.

In 1199, Heinrich von Sternberg from the family of the Counts of Henneberg built a castle at the foot of the "Sterinbercs". In 1695, the Barons of Guttenberg bought the property around Sternberg Castle. The Reformation was introduced in Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke around 1555 by the Truchsess von Wetzhausen. Protestant preaching is said to have been taking place there as early as 1537. From 1628 to 1649, the town was temporarily Catholic again due to the Counter-Reformation. Sulzdorf was part of the manor of the Barons of Guttenberg, which was mediatized in 1806 by the Grand Duchy of Würzburg of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany and with him fell to Bavaria in 1814. The political municipality was created in 1818. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulzdorf_an_der_Lederhecke

Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke (officially Sulzdorf a.d.Lederhecke) is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld. The municipality is a member of the Bad Königshofen im Grabfeld administrative community. The name refers to a wooded strip several kilometers long, which was called Lederhecke and which represented the border with the Saxon and later Thuringian areas. There are several theories about the meaning of "Lederhecke", including "muddy water" or "pasture forest". Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulzdorf_an_der_Lederhecke

8월 11, 2024, Memorial to the Victims of the German Division at the Rieth/Zimmerau Border Crossing
Until 1989, the almost 1400-kilometer-long inner-German border (also known as the German-German border) prevented residents of the German Democratic Republic from visiting the Federal Republic of Germany or permanently leaving for the West through massive fortifications.[1] This did not include the part of the GDR's border with Berlin, whose western sectors within Berlin were closed off with the Berlin Wall from 1961. The course of the demarcation lines between the western occupation zones and the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) was determined by the main victorious powers of the Second World War in several conferences and continued in this geographical form after the founding of the two German states in 1949. The border began in the south at the border triangle of Bavaria, Saxony / GDR, Czechoslovakia and ended at the Baltic Sea in the Bay of Lübeck on the Priwall peninsula. The tower really does have something of a "lost place" feel to it, but the view is fantastic. There's room for a whole busload at the top. A bit strange if you're alone. But if you think back half a century...

2월 27, 2024, Bayernturm Observation Tower
The reason for the construction of the "Bayernturm" was the intention of the communities of Zimmerau and Sternberg to bring visitors to the border region in northern Bavaria. The Bavarian state government supported the construction of the tower financially. The "Zimmerau-Sternberg Tower Community" was founded to realize the project. Under the direction of district master builder Fritz Köth, the 38-meter-high tower was built by the steel construction company Seibert. The construction costs amounted to 365,000 DM. The inauguration date was June 17, the annual day of German unity, in 1966. A holiday home area was built below the tower in 1972. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayernturm
