The old Catholic parish church of St. Stephen was built in the second half of the 15th century on the foundations of a previous Romanesque building. In the 18th century, the church was redesigned and extended in the Baroque style.

The St. George branch church in Steinkirchen, idyllically situated on an island in the Würm in the Steinkirchen district, was first mentioned in documents in 1315. The floor plan of the original Romanesque predecessor, which probably collapsed in 1745, is still recognizable. Reconstruction began in 1748 and a richly decorated baroque interior was created. The high altar, a work by Johann Baptist Straub, is remarkable. However, his famous student Ignaz Günther may have already created the two angel figures. In the center of the high altar there is an impressive Gothic Mother of God in a halo. A tour is possible through the church grille. (Source: www.erzbistum-muenchen.de) Gravestones are set into the outer walls and the walls in the interior. On the gravestone for Maria Lung († 1585) the deceased is depicted kneeling in front of the cross. On the red marble epitaph for Hans Lung († 1604), the deceased is depicted full-length and dressed in armor.

The water wheel in the Würm near Lochham always fascinates me. I find the many photos of it fascinating. The Würm, especially in the upper reaches between Lake Starnberg and Munich, is highly recommended for walks and bike tours. You can also find many hidden places there if you try to stay very close to the river. (Unfortunately without my own photos.)
