Actually just one of the numerous forest highways in the Kottenforst...

Located between the villages of Dünstekoven and Buschhoven, this area was once used for gravel extraction. The gravel pit has since been closed. The area, which is not open to the public (!), has since become an ecologically valuable nature reserve. It is managed by the NABU Bonn district group. Once a year, there is an exceptional opportunity to enter the area and receive informative guided tours. Outside of these events, entry is prohibited!

Nettes Kreuz am Waldrand

The hiking highlight documented here is already in the forest called Kottenforst. It is reached on the fifth stage of the Roman Canal hiking trail, which leads from Rheinbach over around 23 kilometers to Bornheim-Brenig. The previous route was - apart from the villages of Lüftelberg and Buschhoven, which had to be crossed - exclusively in open fields. This offered beautiful views, but also very little shade on a warm summer day. The coolness of the forest is therefore very welcome to the hiker here.

In order to find the outcrop documented here as a hiking highlight - station 39 of the Roman Canal hiking trail, according to the official count the fifth stage - on the outskirts of Buschhoven, the hiker has to make a small detour. There is a corresponding sign.
