An exposure of the Roman Canal, which actually ran underground here. Exciting at this point is the view near the bank. From here you can guess why the Romans first built the canal from the Eifel towards Bonn and then north towards Cologne. The gradient is more even on this route. In this way, the Romans could avoid building high and long aqueducts to overcome steep slopes and terrain cuts.

In order to find the outcrop documented here as a hiking highlight - station 39 of the Roman Canal hiking trail, according to the official count the fifth stage - on the outskirts of Buschhoven, the hiker has to make a small detour. There is a corresponding sign.
