At the edge of the castle site (Schönstein Castle ruins) and the former village of Schönstheim (now part of Dippach) lies the enclosed spring (Schlossbrunnen) – the water emerges from a sandstone-framed hollow in the castle hill – bearing the date 1588. It is likely that the villagers and castle inhabitants already obtained their water from a predecessor of this spring in the 11th/12th centuries. The Schlossbrunnengraben (Castle Well Ditch) is a 1.16 km long, right tributary of the Rippach River in the southern district of Würzburg. The Schlossbrunnengraben is not listed in the watercourse register of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. Although the village of Schönstheim (now part of Dippach) has not existed for over 500 years, a mayor is still elected annually on May 2nd. Schönstheim owns land and therefore still exists as a forest cooperative. The proceeds from forestry and hunting are primarily used to maintain and expand the network of paths. There were once 16 farms with a total of 301 hectares of forest. The representatives of these owners' associations form the municipality of Schönstheim.

Der Burgstall Schönstein, auch Schönstheim genannt, ist eine abgegangene Niederungsburg im Schönstheimer Wald etwa 1820 Meter nordöstlich der Kirche in Strüth, einem heutigen Stadtteil von Röttingen im Landkreis Würzburg in Bayern. Das Waldstück befindet sich zwischen Riedenheim, Oberhausen, Strüth und Röttingen nahe der heutigen Staatsstraße 2268. Die Burg wurde erstmals 1295 mit dem abgegangenen Dorf Dippach (Diepach, Dipbach und Schönstheim), einem Ort mit 16 Hofstellen, erwähnt. 1345 wurde die Burg aus dem Nachlass von Graf Kraft II. von Hohenlohe-Weikersheim mit Teilen des Dorfes an das Bistum Würzburg verkauft und danach vermutlich nicht mehr bewohnt oder nur noch kurz genutzt. Ab 1467 wurde der Ort wegen Kriegswirren nicht mehr bewohnt und die Bevölkerung ließ sich in Riedenheim und Röttingen nieder. Die Burg begann zu verfallen und wurde 1467 in Urkunden nur noch als Burgstall genannt. In der Folgezeit wurde auf dem Burggelände vermutlich u. a. eine Ziegelhütte betrieben. Von der auf einem spornartigen Geländeausläufer gelegenen Burganlage auf einem 30 mal 40 Meter großen Burgplateau, umgeben von einem 20 Meter breiten und 3 Meter tiefen Ringgraben zeugen noch überwucherte Steinhaufen und gut sichtbare Grabenreste. Im Westen befand sich zum Schutz gegen das ansteigende Gelände ein 120 Meter langer, 10 Meter breiter und 4 Meter tiefer Halsgraben. Neben der Burgstelle befindet sich eine Infotafel. Am Rande der Burgstelle und dem ehemaligen Dorf befindet sich die gefasste Quelle (Schlossbrunnen) des Rippachs mit der Jahreszahl 1588. Der Ablauf des Schlossbrunnengrabens führt einen Kilometer bis zur Staatsstraße 2268. Vermutlich bezogen schon die Dorf- und Burgbewohner ihr Wasser aus einem Vorgängerbau dieses Brunnens. Obwohl das Dorf Schönstheim (Dorf Dippach) seit über 500 Jahren nicht mehr existiert, wird dennoch jährlich am 2. Mai ein Bürgermeister gewählt. Schönstheim hat Grundbesitz, deswegen existiert es noch als Waldkörperschaft. Mit dem Erlös der Wald- und der Jagdwirtschaft wird im Wesentlichen das Wegenetz erhalten und ausgebaut. Es gab einmal 16 Bauernhöfe mit insgesamt 301 Hektar Wald. phew .... not easy to find. And then again. The trick is to find the signs that actually point the way. A little patience and everything will be fine. Ultimately, clearly visible paths lead there. And when you stand in front of it, the signs show that you are right. A little further away and "around" the signs are sparser. And smaller than that in the photo. The system itself is then hardly recognizable without the instructions. The ditch around the ski jump is max. 60cm deep - and thus a gentle wave in the forest floor. Again, it is a beautiful forest and just very quiet. It's worth it anyway - somehow ;-) CAUTION. The position on the map is not that precise. The ski jump is in the middle of the forest. Nevertheless, it can be reached via paths.
