The area of the municipality of Leopoldshöhe was probably already inhabited around 2000 years ago; this is supported by the remains of settlements in Bechterdissen, which have been dated to the Cherusci period.[9] Settlements that already existed around the year 500 are in Greste and the Milse estate in Bechterdissen.[9] Based on the ending "-trup" (= village), it is now assumed that Krentrup received its name in the early Middle Ages, before the year 800. This ending is generally considered to be older than the ending "-hausen" and the ending "-issen" which came from "-hausen". The first documented mention of the area dates back to 25 May 1036. The Busdorf document records that Bishop Meinwerk of Paderborn gave the Busdorf canonry, among other things, the main farm Niederbarkhausen in what is now the Leopoldshöhe district of Asemissen with the associated outbuildings Eckendorf in what is now the Leopoldshöhe district of Schuckenbaum, the farm Oerlinghausen, and the Menkhausen estate.
