The Forchtenstein bathing reservoir is fed by the Haidbach. It is located in the middle of "Paradise", as the side valley of the Rosalien Mountains is called. It is 15,000 m2 in size and scores points for its natural shade. Oases of peace and water fun are the best ways to describe the area. It is particularly popular with families as it has very shallow access. A diving tower and a water slide, beach volleyball court and playground for the little ones provide variety. On the sun terrace with a wonderful view of the lake, the canteen spoils you with one or two delicacies. Whether you are a bather, hiker, cyclist or walker - a visit is always worthwhile.

Excellent water quality, a shady location and lots of nature are the best-known features of the Forchtenstein reservoir, which is fed by the Haidbach. Families with children get their money's worth here! 15,000 m² of water surface invite you to cool off and relax. The reservoir is very shallow at the beginning, so that it is also suitable for families with small children. A diving tower and a 50m long water slide ensure pure water fun as well as swimming. A children's playground, which is well equipped, a table tennis table and 2 beach volleyball courts complete the offer. Last but not least, due to the idyllic location at the edge of the forest, there is enough natural shade and stressed parents can find a little time and leisure here to relax and unwind. The lake buffet with a terrace overlooking the lake spoils its guests with all kinds of seasonal delicacies and invites you to chill out. [burgenland.info]

Visible from afar, Forchtenstein Castle sits enthroned on a rocky cone in the Rosalia Mountains and bears witness to an eventful, warlike time. Its roots go back to the 13th century and it has been associated with the name Esterházy since the 1620s.

Great view of Forchtenstein Castle and far beyond. Anyway, it's worth the effort. Also a popular venue for local clubs - such as the annual midsummer bonfire.

Another (superfluous) structure in a wonderful location! The view down to Forchtenstei Castle is great and the descent to the north is also a bite to eat from the MTB point of view.

A mighty castle, the climb is worthwhile because it is beautifully preserved/renovated. There is a reptile zoo nearby (across the street), which might be a welcome addition to the trip (especially with kids). The exhibition consists largely of selfies of former Esterhasys with their imaginary family tree. Some interesting old guns and military tents on top.

Located directly opposite Forchtenstein Castle, with its own car park, it is definitely a good destination for a trip with the children. However, we didn't have a bike lock with us, we didn't want to leave the bikes completely unattended and thus saved the not-very-cheap entry fee of 20 euros (Sept. 2021). Overall very nicely done from the outside and designed in a funny way.
