The so-called "Weikl Sawmill" can be found on the lower town square, at the entrance to the "pottery town." Around 1900, pottery (pots) was still being produced here. When Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492, a market mill with a sawmill was already operating on the same site, on the Little Regen River. After fires, the buildings were rebuilt. The sawmill was primarily supplied with logs floated down the Little Regen. The sawmill has been owned by the Weikl family for over 150 years. Even today, logs up to 12 meters long are floated down a canal from the Little Regen into the sawmill. In 1975, Dr. h.c. Erich Schott, of the Jena glassworks, Schott & Associates, Mainz, donated this fountain to the people of Zwiesel. The large 'Erich Schott Fountain' is located in Zwiesel's town square. Granite steps, arranged in a circle around the fountain, compensate for the uneven terrain where necessary. They are paved with cobblestones. The majority of the round fountain is also made of gray granite. The low basin walls are lined with rectangular granite tiles, both on the inside and outside. Wooden plank seating is attached to the polished stone slabs that define the wide, overhanging edge of the basin. Within the basin, surrounded by shallow water, lie two natural boulders. They encircle the central element, which consists of a steel pedestal and a large stone sphere resting upon it. The listed building of the former Weissbier brewery, with its stepped gables, is a beautiful gem in Zwiesel and a real eye-catcher.

The tax office was housed in the former district court building on the market square in Zwiesel. This building, now the tax office, previously served as Degenberg's lodgings and an administrative building, to which a brewery was attached. Records from 1682 show that the Elector's brewery administrator was also the court clerk. According to the 18th-century renovation plan, the building's dimensions and external layout still correspond to the current main building. It was the house of the "strict court clerk," the deputy of the district judge. At the rear of the building stood a thick, two-story brick tower, called the "Reckturm" (rack tower), where the joints of those arrested were stretched during torture. The lower part of the tower served as a prison. The tower was partially demolished in 1803 and likely incorporated into the annex that was torn down in 1969. Heavily barred openings suggested this. In 1825, the tax office burned down along with 27 other houses. In 1853, the former Weißbräuhaus (white brewery) and the later tax office granary were demolished to make way for a new forestry office building (part of the tax office since 1972). In 1903, the tax office building was remodeled and expanded. Due to the bankruptcy of the construction company, completion was delayed until 1904. During this time, the office was located on Daiminger Straße (Machl). During the renovation, a number of underground rooms were uncovered, as well as a connection to a system of underground tunnels. These were filled in during the construction work. In 1959, a tower on the office building was removed, and the facade was given its current appearance. Since October 5, 1992, the "Forstmeisterhäusl" (Forester's House), formerly part of the forestry office complex, has been used by the tax office. The two-story granite building (Stadtplatz 14a) with a gable roof and a ground-level hipped-roof extension has long been a listed historical monument. Following extensive renovation and conversion work, it housed the tax office until November 30, 2000.
