This charming bridge, crossing over Otterburn Beck, is a Grade-II listed structure, dated to the late 18th or early 19th century. It is a lovely place to stop at to rest for a bit in the company of the beautiful burn.

Handy Place For a rest

Malham is one of the Dales' most popular little villages. It's worth a visit just to enjoy its quaint cafes, boutiques and lovely pubs. However, the village is synonymous with two of the national park's most stunning beauty spots. Firstly, there's Malham Cove, an extraordinary 230-foot (70 m) curved limestone cliff that's much loved by hikers and rock climbers alike. Then, there's the great cleft of Gordale Scar. This spectacular limestone gorge and its tumbling waterfall was thought to be the inspiration behind JRR Tolkien's Helm's Deep.

Wigglesworth is a charming little village nestled between the Forest of Bowland AONB and the Yorkshire Dales. It is just off the route of the Ribble Way long-distance trail, which follows the course of Wigglesworth Beck for a short time. The village is a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside, with the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Whernside within easy driving distance to the north. The 18th-century Plough Inn provides excellent food and accommodation in the heart of the village.

Close to the Lancashire border with Yorkshire, Gisburn is a pretty village in the Ribble Valley. It has connections with English folklore: Guy of Gisburn, rival to Robin Hood, was said to have come from here. It is a good base for exploring the Forest of Bowland AONB, as well as being within easy driving distance of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Accommodation wise, there's the 18th-century Whtie Bull Country Inn, which serves excellent food. There are also more luxurious lodgings at Ribblesdale Park.
