Collapsed quartzite rock forms Blackrock Summit. The rock is believed to be formed from the seabed of the Iapetus ocean, an ancient sea that disappeared more than 400 million years ago.

An excellent viewpoint with interesting rock formations

This 571-acre park boasts over 16 miles of trails, popular with hikers, runners, and bikers, winding through lush, green forested areas. The park is a favorite spot for mountain biking and equestrian activities, so stay alert and be sure to share the trails.

This viewpoint, one of two along the Frazier Discovery Trail, offers sweeping views of Shenandoah National Park. Take some time to pause here and fully appreciate the beauty of the area.

One of the rare, fully serviced locations on the Skyline. Restaurant has decent menu with mostly fast food choices and always welcome ice cream. Clean washroom and souvenir shop. I was surprised to see bike work stand with all tools and pump, just in case you need it. Also close by is the camping ground with all the amenities. It was early in the day so I pushed forward to gain some millage. If staying in the area, there are multiple hiking options, including top of the Loft Mountain trail and sections of Appalachian trail. Enjoy and respect.
