A peninsula with a huge. secluded beach on one side and a marina on the other. Very quaint and hidden, hardly any people on the beach. Beautiful small paths lead through the forest, but in places quite sandy. A warning is given against ticks. Lots of nature here.

This scenic crushed gravel path takes you through the heart of Staten Island along the north side of La Tourette Park's many spots fields and hiking trail network. Here you get great views of the woods and marsh.

This is one of Staten Island's most popular beaches, known for offering free concerts and fireworks to the public. The paved trail runs along the sandy beach, providing stunning views of the bay as you run. Additionally, there are some piers if you want to get a 360-degree view of the water.

A natural paradise for waterfowl and turtles. The cliffs to the water are too unsafe and therefore cordoned off. There is a lighthouse with a great history on the edge of the reserve.

How do you defend one of the largest ports in the world? Some information boards provide the answers based on the example of New York. This fortress, which was originally built by the British, also belonged to the defense system. But go and read the story for yourself!

When I arrived at Fort Wadsworth (traveling north up the east side of Staten Island) I was surprised to see how huge Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge looked. It looks unreal. To add to the affect semi-trucks passing across the bridge vibrated as they blasted hip-hop music which echoed from up high. As you ride slightly past the bridge you can look down at Battery Weed, a four-tiered early 19th century military complex on the shore of New York Harbor. In the distance you can see Brooklyn. I have recently learned that they have recently introduced camping in this area during select times of the year. I'm sure it's very tame, but I would love to try it.
