Hardcore hikers might not enjoy the fact that Mirror Lake is so close to the road, but it's still an absolutely beautiful destination that suits many mobility levels. The lakeside trail makes a wonderful outing from the nearby campground.

Bonnie Lake is close enough to the road that you can't really escape the noise of traffic. But it's still a pretty, and easy, hiking destination from the Mirror Lake Campground or the nearby Highline Trailhead.

Clegg Lake offers a big reward on relatively little effort: A scenic, drought-resistant lake that adventure kids and adults alike will enjoy as a destination.

Although Hoover Lake can be easily accessed on foot, it's also one of the closer lakes to the 4-wheel-drive Murdock Basin Road — so you might see some off-road vehicle traffic near the lake as well.

Shepard Lake is rockier than some of its neighbors, but still a very pretty destination on relatively easy trail — a great hike for families with adventurous kids, or adults who want a relatively easy stroll in the mountains.

Arguably the prettiest lake in this basin, as well as the easiest to reach, Fehr Lake is a great destination for the entire family.

Aside from occasional mud and a few rocks, the hike around Ruth Lake is easy — which means there may be crowds, especially on sunny weekends.

The view from the top of Bald Mountain is majestic: lakes, pine forests and jagged mountains line up under your eyes.
