When the weather is good, I have a beautiful 360° view of the Black Forest from the top of the Feldberg.

The Belchen is not the highest mountain, but it is one of the most beautiful mountains in the Black Forest, because it offers visitors a fantastic panoramic view of the Rhine Valley, the Vosges and, in good weather, even as far as the Alps. As one of the most popular excursion destinations in the southern Black Forest, the Belchen is well frequented all year round.

This ridge path is a beautiful rocky getaway. A bit of rock climbing and sure footing allow for great views and an alpine experience. To be taken in dry weather and with caution. Not suitable for people who have difficulty climbing or are dizzy, but there is a safe alternative below.

Wonderful view of the Feldbergsee. Behind it you can see the Raimartihof, which invites you to rest after the long descent. Hinterzarten is further away.

Easy climb, exposed in some places. Great prospects. Surefootedness is absolutely necessary, in some places you can use the bypass.

The path through the Gauchach Gorge is especially not recommended for people with even a slight fear of heights! I myself had no problem with that, but my hiking companion had to go beyond its limits. The path is sometimes very narrow, slippery and muddy, there are no steel "retaining fences" like in the Wutach Gorge. Absolute surefootedness, good physical condition and good shoes are a real MUST here! It becomes particularly problematic when a hiker comes towards you and you have to pass each other. I would classify the section as difficult depending on the weather conditions. Still a real highlight for me and highly recommended for advanced hikers (sticks are helpful !!); you are in a real jungle with a breathtaking view into the depths of the Gauchach!

You should be sure-footed and not afraid of heights. Good footwear is a requirement. The ridge is marked as a via ferrata, but it is not secured. There is a footpath to the side to get around the ridge. I think it's worth a detour for our region. It is definitely worth it . It's best to go early in the morning or during the week.
