This legendary place lies between gnarled trees and jagged rocks – with a simple wooden sign, yet a mystical aura. The name "Witches' Dance Ground" lends the scene a very unique atmosphere, which is particularly intense in the frosty winter. A quiet, slightly eerie place with a sense of historical magic. 💡 Tip 🔮 Stand for a moment in the middle of the square – history can almost be felt in the quiet snow.

It is a memorial to an unpunished murder that occurred deep in the forest around 285 years ago. A large wooden cross stands on the base of the so-called Tirolerstein, located in the heart of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and directly on the border between the Birkenfeld and Trier-Saarburg districts. A seating area in front of it invites you to take a break in the greenery. Since the former chapel in the nearby Neuhütten district of Muhl was converted into the National Park Church a few years ago, and since then, star hikes have been held there, the Tirolerstein has also been a place where believers occasionally hold services.

A great place for a rest! Even though there are no benches, the rocks are sufficient.

Unfortunately, you can only find this historic place with luck and a map. The path that comes from below is impassable due to fallen trees. From the picnic area above, you can still walk quite well. There is no sign or information board. What a pity.

The Idarkopf offers excellent panoramic views over the surrounding Hunsrück heights. The new Idarkopf tower, a hybrid construction made of wood and hot-dip galvanized steel, was opened in December 2022 after the previous wooden tower, which was damaged by fire in 2018, was demolished in February 2022.

The observation tower on the Idarkopf mountain in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, located in the EdelSteinLand region, offers breathtaking panoramic views from its height of over 30 meters. The original tower was destroyed by fire in 2018; now, a hybrid structure made of construction timber and hot-dip galvanized steel graces the summit.
