It was built between 1710 and 1810 for Prince Friedrich Anton Ulrich of Waldeck and Pyrmont (1676 – 1728).
After the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont died, Prince Carl (1728 - 1763) came to power and lived in the castle.
In 1858, Queen Emma of the Netherlands was born in the royal palace.
The descendants of the princely family of Waldeck and Pyrmont still live in parts of the castle in Bad Arolsen today.
You can visit, among other things:
The stone hall with stucco work and ceiling paintings, the Palatinate Room, the Alhambra - wedding gift of Princess Helene of Nassau (mother of Queen Emma of the Netherlands), the white hall with paintings by Tischbein, Meytens and Aldegrever, the music, white empire, Red and Blue Salon and the Crown Prince's Room.
