Mountain meadows should not be mowed before mid-June for the first time in the year. The Ebertswiese is now in all its glory at the end of May, as a refuge for colours, plants and animals. At its edge the mountain lake in a former quarry. Some Indian and Wild West feelings come up when you see it. Tip: take the path behind the lake to get a great view from above.

Altenstein Castle is located just a few kilometers from Thuringia's oldest health resort, Bad Liebenstein. Built in neo-renaissance style, it once served as a summer residence for the dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque landscape park with a Chinese house, ornate carpet beds and vantage points of the Werra valley. None other than Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau was involved in the design of the park. Since 2017, the palace has housed a memorial for Johannes Brahms, who visited there several times. https://www.thueringerschloesser.de/objekt/schloss-und-park-altenstein/

Very worthwhile. It is the highest waterfall in the Thuringian Forest. The water plunges over 50 m into the depth. However, the waterfall is artificially created and is only in operation from Easter to the end of October.

The Ebertswiese is famous for its abundance of flowers and has been a nature reserve since 1936. Depending on the season, you can experience the magnificent play of colors in wildflowers that have already completely disappeared elsewhere. In May, the entire area shines in the sunny yellow of globeflowers and marsh marigolds. In June the meadow appears in the pink veil of the knotweed. Orchid species such as orchid and lady's slipper are represented, as are the healing arnica, cotton grass and devil's claw. The species population has been superbly preserved through mowing and other biotope maintenance measures by nature conservationists. Source: https://www.ebertswiese.de/

8월 6, 2021, Trusetal Waterfall
The Trusetal waterfall is known far beyond the borders of Thuringia. The man-made structure was created in 1865 under the supervision of the then Specht building council. From April to the end of October, part of the Truse river is diverted through a dam below Brotterode and flows with a slight gradient along the Hübelsberg and Halbstein. Over a distance of 3.5 km, the waterfall ditch built by miners meanders naturally and harmoniously through the forest landscape. In the beech forest of the Hühnberge, where the piles of rock from volcanic activity emerge particularly vividly and strikingly, the water rushes in three cascades, thundering 58 m deep into a collecting basin, before it is fed back into the natural course of the Truse. You can climb the waterfall via 228 steps! Hike the waterfall moat. On the idyllic waterfall circular hiking trail, the course of the water can be followed to its source and nature can be enjoyed to the full. The Trusetal waterfall is in operation every year from Easter to the end of October. In the winter months, the water supply is turned off to prevent frost damage to the rock backdrop. Inspired by the imposing rock backdrop of granite and pophyr in the narrow Kerbtal of the Truse, the wild and romantic waterfall was created in 1865 - a natural monument. From April to October part of the Truse water is diverted through a dam below Brotterode and flows with a slight gradient along the Hübelsberg and Halbstein. Over a distance of 3.5 km, the artificially created waterfall ditch meanders naturally and harmoniously through the forest landscape. At the point where the piles of rock from volcanic activity emerge particularly vividly and strikingly, the water rushes in three cascades, thundering 58 meters into a collecting basin, before it then takes its way again in the actual river bed. You have to overcome 228 steps to climb the waterfall.
