Ludwig I. already left here. On August 9, 1862, the Bavarian King, who was enthusiastic about the Palatinate, walked through the Karlstal near Trippstadt together with His Royal Highness, Grand Duke Ludwig III. of Hesse and near the Rhine, and Her Imperial Highness Archduchess Hildegard of Austria. This is confirmed by a cast-iron commemorative plaque embedded in one of the large, green, moss-covered sandstone blocks that lie around in the ravine through which the Moosalb rippled like giant forgotten toys. Impressive little gorge with a great forest and a nice inn.
