This quiet double-track path leads from the Lucky Peak State Recreation Area to the Oregon Trail. There are a few intersecting roads and trails out in this area, so it's helpful to have your map downloaded and with you.

For generations Native Americans traveled along this route and in 1833 Captain Benjamin Bonneville became one of the first Europeans to reach this point. Later on this route would become part of the famous Oregon Trail. While there are some good views to be had, this area might be of more interest to those who are into history.

The Lydle Gulch Trail is a mostly double-track path with a mix of singletrack tossed in. The path is sandy with packed dirt and grass. It's a popular spot for biking, running, hiking, and dog walking. There are numerous other paths on the property that you can branch onto to make different length loops.

Operated by the Adelmann Brothers, German miners, in the late 1800s, the Adelmann Mine primarily sought gold, silver, and zinc. Now under the Bureau of Land Management, its relics provide an intriguing destination for mountain bikers seeking a thrilling ride through historical terrain.

The views from the top of Lucky Peak are spectacular. You can see all the way down the valley to Lucky Peak Reservoir. Although the track to the top is good quality, it should be avoided in the winter when the snow can build up.

Lucky Peak (also known as Shaw Mountain) is one of the four Grand Slam Peaks. This 5,904-foot (1,800 m) mountain offers stunning views, but both the peak and most of the trail to reach it are fully exposed to the sun. You'll need plenty of water to account for that sun exposure. But don't forget to also bring layers, as the upper heights of Lucky Peak can be quite a bit colder than temperatures down below.
