8월 21, 2024, Rhossili Down Summit
Rhossili Down is a long ridge on the western tip of the Gower Penninsula. It stretches from Worms Head to Burry Holmes Island. It is a marvellous bit of high ground but only goes up to a height of 193-metres. Despite its diminuitive size, the views from its trig pointed summit are magnificent. The views down, over Worms Head, are simply world-class.

Llanmadoc Hill has fine views across towards Rhossili Down and nearby Harding's Down. With a trig point, a cairn, and an orientation table, it has a nice broad summit, which has few access paths to the the top. At 186 metres high, it is also a UK-designated P100 hill with 105 metres of prominence.

10월 31, 2023, Llanmadoc Hill Summit & Orientation Table
The summit of Llanmadoc Hill is only 186m high but it makes for a really good run out from Llanmadoc. The views are pretty special on a sky blue day. The summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey Trig Point.

A brilliant grassy bridleway leads up Llanmadoc Hill from both the village with the same name and Llangennith. This is less steep than nearby Rhossili Down, so with good gearing is mostly rideable in the dry. If you're heading west to east, enjoy the little rollers before you start the main descent down into Llanmadoc. There's also a great viewing infographic at the top near the trig point, which shows you distances to landmarks near and far on the South Wales coastline and beyond.

7월 23, 2020, Llanmadoc Hill Summit & Orientation Table
Llanmadoc Hill is a 186-metre-high hill at the northwestern corner of the Gower Peninsula west of Swansea in South Wales. The summit at the western end of the east-west aligned ridge is crowned by a trig point; at its eastern end are a series of complex earthworks known as The Bulwark. Numerous other prehistoric cairns adorn the hill’s broad summit ridge. The hill’s position above the village of Llanmadoc within 2 km of Gower’s northwest coast enables wide panoramas to be enjoyed over the western end of the peninsula and the surrounding Loughor estuary, Rhossili Bay and Carmarthen Bay.

If you venture this far, I recommend setting off around 2.5 hours before low tide. It is on average a 2-hour hike to this point from the Rhossili car park. It is a bit of a scramble/rock climb to the top of the land which rises steadily to the furthest section of the island, Outer Head. The path starts off on the south shore then cuts northwards, ending with a short climb up a slanted cliff, to the grassy summit right at the western tip, from where the views extend across the Bristol Channel out towards the Atlantic. On a clear day you can see Lundy Island and the hills of Exmoor Devon as well as Pembrokeshire coastline. Outer Head is out-of-bounds between March and September in order to protect nesting birds, including guillemots, kittiwakes and herring gulls.

Such a beautiful place, national trust parking with huge cafe and lots of facilities nearby. Voted best UK beach twice. Easy access to worms head causeway from here also.

Although you can get much closer to the shore than this, climbing up to the huge ridge of Cefn Bryn is well worth it for the sweeping panoramic views of the Gower coastline, which surrounds you on three sides. It's a stiff climb from the southern slope, but once you are up there you have 1.2 miles (2 km) of ridgeline riding to look forward to!
