Such a lovely mini-station! Upon arrival, I had to wait until the train started, so I took a look around. Clean and heated restrooms. The waiting room is also heated, with a large table and a corner bench. It feels a bit like a museum.

Ausserberg train station 🚉 is an ideal starting point for hikes along the Lötschberg south ramp. From here you can reach the famous Bietschtal bridge and the picturesque Suonen (historic irrigation canals) 🌊. The hikes offer breathtaking views of the Rhone Valley and the surrounding Alps 🏔️. The region is known for its unique flora and fauna 🌿 and the well-signposted hiking trails.

Nice restaurant with friendly staff where you can take a break. Here you can also rent trodlers, which you can use to drive down into the valley.

The Lötschberg summit tunnel will be renovated from December 2018 to the end of 2024. This has the following effects on the timetable: Hohtenn will only be served every two hours instead of every hour. Two fewer trains will run from Eggerberg in the morning towards Brig–Domodossola. Beautiful summit just over 3000m, accessible via normal hiking trail. Or from the Augstbornhorn via T4, white-blue-white.
