La Tête de l'Herbette is a summit located on the northern edge of Vanil Noir, a mountain in the Swiss Alps. The climb has rocky and exposed sections that are secured by steel cables and chains, but also unsecured sections that are steep and precarious. Climbing should not be attempted in wet or snowy weather, as it can become very slippery and dangerous. The ascent after the Marindes hut is superb and leads to a magnificent view at the foot of the Herbette head. Beware of the very committed and dangerous descent which makes you switch to the other side. The trail is called "rotten rocks" and it is. The 600m after the step are dizzying and you must not be dizzy and stay focused on your feet and hands. Not recommended when it's raining or selling.

The Vanil de l'Ecri is the second highest peak in the canton of Friborg and has a second name, it is also called Sur Combe and is at 2376m. Its well known neighbor the Vanil Noir is 13m higher at 2389m. The path to the Vanil de l'Ecri is a lot less exposed than the Vanil Noir. Nevertheless, you should be sure-footed and have a head for heights, as the upper part is quite steep. In the Vanil Noir nature reserve there is a large population of ibex.

The 15 square kilometer nature reserve has a very special climate: it is warm and dry and the area extends over several altitudes. Thus, the pre-alpine landscape is incredibly diverse: Down in the valley you can discover plants from the Mediterranean, while up on the summit you can find flora from the Arctic. A total of 500 species of plants grow in the Vanil Noir nature reserve and over 70 species of butterflies are at home in the lush flower meadows.
