The entire area of the Hemer Sea of Rocks extends over 35 hectares and is mostly covered by a beech forest. Many rare animal and plant species inhabit the forest, the dead wood and the cool and damp crevices in the rocks. The Hemer Sea of Rocks is accessible all year round. Sturdy shoes are recommended. There are information boards at the entrances to the Sea of Rocks. The Panorama Trail of the Sea of Rocks marked there opens up the most beautiful areas and the impressive viewpoints. Duck sculpture at the upper park entrance (Deilinghofen) of the Sauerland Park in Hemer. The wooden duck was on display at the 2008 Bingen State Garden Show in the 600 square meter exhibition area of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forestry Department. There, still painted yellow with a red beak, it symbolized the biodiversity of the flora and fauna in the water-dominated forests in Rhineland-Palatinate.

After the approximately 9 km long climb from Altena, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the landscape.

Road bike highlight? 🤔 From the set highlight position you won't see anything of the sea of rocks. That's further up or to the north. The sea of rocks in Hemer is definitely worth seeing. However, it should be noted that the paths are more intended for hikers. I would avoid the highlight at the weekend because of the many visitors. During the week, however, it's not too crowded there. For anyone who doesn't mind an off-road section and possibly steps.
