A well-restored and well-maintained castle ruin. Everything is secure, the tower is accessible via a staircase and there is even a toilet. The view from the tower is very beautiful.

In 1889, Friedrich Eduard von Eichel-Streiber had a castle-like villa built on the ridge by the architects Ludwig Nehrer and Aage von Kauffmann. Until 2008, the villa was the seat of the regional church office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia.

Pretty villa in the middle of a park. Visitors are not allowed to get very close, but it is enough for a good look.

@BAMA What you wrote is not entirely correct. Friedrich Eduard von Eichel-Streiber had the villa planned in 1889 by the architects Ludwig Neher and Aage von Kauffmann. In 1921 the city of Eisenach acquired the building and rented it to the Thuringian State Church, which later bought it. In 2011 the Evangelical Church offered it for sale. Since 2017 it has belonged to the Brenner Cultural and Monument Foundation.

Again and again you can catch a glimpse of the Wartburg from the numerous hiking trails. It doesn't matter whether it's sunny or slightly foggy, it's always impressive to see the castle

Corrected version. Thanks to Eike for the tip. The Villa Pflugensberg in Eisenach is a listed building with an eventful history. Originally, the Pflugensberg area was named after the then owner, the head huntsman Otto von Pflug, from 1725 onwards. At the beginning of the 1840s, the industrial family von Eichel-Streiber acquired the site and had the garden transformed into a landscape park by Eduard Petzold between 1841 and 1844. Between 1889 and 1892, Friedrich Eduard von Eichel-Streiber had the castle-like villa built in the historicist style. The planning was carried out by the architects Ludwig Neher and Aage von Kauffmann from Frankfurt am Main, while the construction management was the responsibility of the Eisenach architect Christian Hermann Friedrich Hahn. The villa has 90 rooms with a total living space of 3000 square meters. In 1921, the villa became the property of the city of Eisenach and was rented by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia, which later acquired it. It served as the regional church office and seat of the regional bishop. After the merger of the Thuringian regional church with the Evangelical Church of the Church Province of Saxony to form the Evangelical Church in Central Germany in 2009, the regional church office was moved to Erfurt and the villa stood empty. In March 2017, the non-profit Brenner Cultural and Monument Foundation acquired the historic building. The foundation plans to use the villa as its own headquarters and to take on additional tenants. Today, Villa Pflugensberg is a listed building and is considered a valuable cultural asset due to its architectural and garden-artistic significance.
