This enormous wooden pergola welcomes users of the Vía Verde del Aceite (Olive Oil Greenway). It was built in the fall of 2024 to beautify the beginning of the route. It features climbing plants that will soon entangle themselves around the structure and provide shade for those of us who stop to program our navigation systems or simply refill our water containers. Following the pergola, which must measure about 50 meters, trees have been planted to extend the shade by another 50 meters, which is especially appreciated during the summer months.

This roundabout is adorned with stones that were once used to grind olives and produce olive oil. It's like a small exhibition of the processes used in the past, displayed to the public as they pass by the Greenway so they can get a sense of the shape of the stones and the circular axes on which they rotated endlessly until the liquid gold was obtained.

This small iron structure serves to facilitate the passage of Vía Verde users over the Autovía del Olivar highway as it passes through Torredelcampo. It was built relatively recently and was carried out by the Jaén Provincial Council, presumably with European funding. It solves a problem that required traveling a few meters further to reach another bridge in the aforementioned town.

A few years ago, Jaén City Council decided to pay tribute to the Civil Guard by creating a statue at the roundabout specifically designed for this purpose, on a major artery in the city. Today, this roundabout has considerably improved access to the neighborhood and, in turn, pays tribute to the Civil Guard, a national security force highly valued and esteemed by Spaniards.

The difficult layout of the Vía Verde del Aceite required the construction of tunnels and viaducts to overcome the terrain. As we left Jaén heading towards Córdoba, we came across this first metal viaduct, which stands out for its design and the material it was made of. It is 124 meters long and has a maximum height of 25 meters. It is based on the modernist construction technique typical of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The technique is similar to that used on the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, but it was built and designed by disciples of the prodigious builder named Dayd'e and Pillé around 1890. The pieces and structure were constructed in the French city of Creil. This technique involves joining the parts with rivets that prevent the metal from welding.

The Luque station, part of the original Linares-Puente Genil line, was built by the Compañía de los Ferrocarriles Andaluces and opened along with the entire line in January 1893. In 1941, with the nationalisation of the Iberian railways, the facilities passed into the hands of RENFE. The line remained in service until it was closed in October 1984, when it was dismantled and the tracks removed. After the line was closed, the old station building has been used as a restaurant since 1990. It also houses the Oil Interpretation Centre, a site dedicated to the history of olive oil and olive groves, where you can also taste oil from the region. The site is within the route formerly known as the "Vía Verde de la Subbética". In 2017, those responsible for the Greenway routes agreed to unify all sections of the old route under the same name "Vía Verde del Aceite". For many, however, it is and will remain the "Green Way". Luque station is a popular starting or intermediate point for cycling tours along the Vía Verde del Aceite, the old railway line that is now a great cycle path. The route offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the Córdoba region. The current station also offers a good opportunity to take a break and enjoy food and cool drinks.

This area of open landscapes, which is entirely agricultural, has very loose soils rich in limestone, developed on soft rocks (marl and clay). The nature of these soils and the prevailing climate in the region make the olive tree (Olea europea), adapted to periods of long drought, the most widespread crop in the Córdoba countryside.

This viaduct spans the Guadajoz River, the course of which marks the border between the provinces of Jaén and Córdoba. The viaduct, built in 1891, is 199 m long. The viaduct is more slender than the other bridges on the route.
