The castle in view

An imposing castle - so high up on a rock. This is how I drew and painted castles as a child 🏰

Access via a steel spiral staircase. In the forecourt there is a large barbecue area with a small house where dry wood is stored for burning

Remains of the Baldenstein castle ruins. The castle was destroyed by fire quite early (around 1150). What a miracle that there is still something to see today.

Gutenstein Castle was probably built in the 16th century (documented as of 1626) and rebuilt in the early 18th century in the classicist style by Franz Ludwig Schenk von Castell, the so-called "Malefizschenk". In 1834, due to lack of money, it was sold to Ludwig von Langenstein, a son of the Grand Duke Ludwig I of Baden. A bailiwick office was created in the castle as an administrative center for the villages of Gutenstein, Engelswies, Ablach and Altheim, which were combined to form the "Gutenstein Lordship". The Gutensteiner Obervogteiamt existed until the transfer of power to Baden in the wake of the Pressburg Peace of 1806. The castle is not accessible. In 1978 the dilapidated property was sold by the Douglas family to Manfred Klietmann. He sold the renovated and restored castle at the end of 2005 with around 700 m² of living space and a plot of 12,000 m² to a private individual from Reutlingen (Wikipedia).
