Toledo Cathedral, also known as the Primate Cathedral of Spain, is one of the masterpieces of Gothic art in Europe and a symbol of the city. Its construction began in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III and lasted for more than two centuries. It is dedicated to Saint Mary and stands on the site of an old mosque, which in turn was built on the site of a Visigothic church.

The Alcántara Bridge is one of Toledo's most iconic monuments, with a history dating back to Roman times and an architecture that has evolved over the centuries. Originally built by the Romans in the 3rd century AD, as part of the network of roads that connected the Empire. Its name comes from the Arabic "al-qanṭarah," meaning "the bridge," given by the Muslims after its reconstruction in the 10th century.

The Cathedral is the most grandiose and monumental building in the city. It is a Gothic cathedral started in the 13th century, although over the centuries that its construction lasted it has Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements. In addition, it contains very important works of art such as the Custodia for the Corpus Christi procession, the Baroque Transparente made by Narciso Tomé and the Expolio by the painter El Greco. Its sacristy houses an impressive treasure trove of works of art. It has 19 works by El Greco alone, but to these we must add others by painters such as Goya, Caravaggio, Titian, Van Dick, Goya, Morales, Orrente or Tristan. Also noteworthy are the Chapter House, the chapel of San Ildefonso, the sacristy, the chapel of Reyes Nuevos, the choir, the cloister... Therefore it is a monument that must be visited, to discover all the treasures it holds within.

Crossing this bridge is always impressive, and it has spectacular views of the Alcázar of Toledo and the Castillo de San Servando, especially if you cross it at night. It has a Roman origin. It was built in the 3rd century. The Roman roads that linked Emerita Augusta (Mérida) with Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza) crossed here, as well as those that continued to the east and south passing through Consaburum (Consuegra). The Alcántara Bridge has undergone numerous reconstructions because for centuries it was the main access to the city of Toledo, and, in addition to the movement of people and goods, we must add the damage caused by successive wars, conquests and reconquests. In the 10th century it had to be restored by the Arabs, although from that time only the spur on the side facing the Castle of San Servando remains. Due to a great flood that partially destroyed it, King Alfonso The great tower that overlooks the city belongs to this period. The Catholic Monarchs would also order this tower to be renovated, turning it into a kind of military fortress. The fortified door decorated with the image of San Ildefonso, the patron saint of the city of Toledo, and the shield of the Catholic Monarchs, is precisely one of the most impressive elements of this Bridge.

A day visiting the UNESCO rated hilltop city of Toledo with its cathedral and Alcazar. To be honest though whoever thought of building a cathedral at the top of a 500m hill and the car park at the bottom needs speaking to. At least they put in escalators all the way to the top though (honest 🤷). Stunning, stunning place. World Heritage Sites. No 5. Historic City of Toledo. A Roman municipium, the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom, a fortress of the Emirate of Cordoba, an outpost of the Christian kingdoms fighting the Moors.

The church of San Esteban Protomártir stands out, built during the 17th and 18th centuries; the hermitage of the Santísimo Cristo de la Sala; the Loranque farm, a farmhouse from the end of the 18th century; and the open-air sculpture museum, which exhibits works by contemporary authors at various pedestrian points.

Nice Roman arch bridge built between 103 and 104 over the Tagus River. The bridge was chosen "Best Corner of Spain" in 2014 in a contest. Here you can enjoy the peace of the river and the amazing historical sights.

This fortress of Roman origin was also used by the Arabs and finally taken over by Alfonso VI of Castile. Located at a strategic point next to the Alberche river between Ávila and Toledo, it contains an imposing 22-meter-high keep and a Mudejar palace inside.

It is a Gothic castle with a Mudejar interior palace. It is strategically located on a plateau that borders the Alberche River between Ávila and Toledo. Today it is in ruins although it has been partially restored. It is privately owned. It has splendid views.

The site is quiet, there are few people and the waters are clean and not so cold. A perfect place to rest for a while.
