This is a fun river crossing over the Gilil Beck. When the river is low, you can ride straight through, or use the elevated walkway if the water is high.

Knaresborough Viaduct is a viaduct in the North Yorkshire town of Knaresborough, England. The viaduct carries the Harrogate line over the River Nidd in the town. The viaduct was supposed to have opened in 1848, but the first construction collapsed into the river very near to completion, which necessitated a new viaduct and delayed the opening of the line through Knaresborough by three years.

The Nidd Viaduct, otherwise known as the Bilton Viaduct spans the River Nidd. It was built in 1849 to carry the Leeds & Thirsk Railway across the Nidd Gorge.

Take the path down to the riverside to get a good view of the viaduct but be prepared for the steep scramble back to the top.

The Nidderdale Greenway is a 4.2-mile (6.5km) route on the National Cycle Network, connecting Harrogate to Ripley. Great views throughout, especially going over Nidd Moor.

Woodhall Bridge is a beautiful five-span wrought iron truss that spans over the River Wharfe. The bridge was constructed in 1868 as a railway bridge by Joseph Whitham and Son of Leeds, it now acts as a bridleway carrying pedestrians and cyclists over in a scenic woodland area. It's a beautiful place to stop and catch your breath before continuing your meander along the river.

Knaresborough Castle, a bastion cherished by medieval monarchs, graces its surroundings with a stunning presence, commanding a view over the flowing waters of the River Nidd. The castle's historical trail first emerges in 1129, and subsequent refurbishment was undertaken by Edward I, with the project ultimately culminating under the guidance of Edward II between 1307 and 1312. Spofforth held paramount significance as the primary residence of the Percy family, a pivotal and commanding lineage in the northern realms of England, until the concluding era of the 14th century. William de Percy, a cherished figure in the eyes of William the Conqueror, erected a distinguished manor house upon this land during the 11th century. It is said that within these very grounds, insurgent barons convened to draft the historic Magna Carta in the year 1215.

Stop at the gate for a great view from Spoil Bank across to Crimple Valley Viaduct.

Nidd Gorge is a ravine of about 3 miles in length between Nidd viaduct and Grimbald bridge. The Knaresborough section along which the NCN 636 runs offers a spectacular viewpoint of the town and bridges.

NCN Route 636 follows the route of the River Nidd, continuing along Abbey Road, a quiet (and gated) road around Knaresborough. Along with the river views, other points of interest include passing the site of the Trinitarian Priory of the Holy Trinity and St Robert, destroyed and dissolved in 1538, the cave of St. Robert the hermit, the castle grounds and some more recently installed attractive wood sculptures.
