Parking can be found just off North Lane on the west side, and just south of the village of Fewston on the east side of the reservoir. Great walking route all the way around, with the best views from the east side.

Lindley Wood is a compensation reservoir, which means it is not linked to the supply of water to homes but is there to take excess water from Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs, which are nearby. This is why there is not much water in there.

This reservoir is one of the oldest in the Washbourn Valley; it was built between 1869 and 1876. The other three reservoirs here are Thruscross, Swinsty and Fewston. Walking around the reservoir is a truly aesthetic, soul-beautifying experience. The green wooded banks, woodland and reservoir paths and open countryside... what else would anyone want in life?... oh, sunsets here are unbelievable.

Eccup Reservoir is the largest body of water in Yorkshire. It's classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its abundance of rare plant species that protect over 150 important bird species. It's surrounded by stunning woodland and features a network of well-marked trails, and is the perfect location for a family-friendly waterside stroll.

Eccup Reservoir was constructed in 1843 but extended to its present size in 1897. It's owned and managed by Yorkshire Water. The reservoir and surrounding area are a SSSI for the flora and waterbirds which breed here. The around the reservoir path is about 8km and popular with local walkers and families.

Swinsty Reservoir was completed in 1878, just before Fewston Reservoir, which is just upstream. Yorkshire Water own and manage both reservoirs. The circular path is suitable for all and very popular, and the surrounding area is managed for wildlife.

The track around the reservoir is for pedestrians only, no cycling !!

Lindley Wood Reservoir was the first of the four reservoirs in the Washburn Valley to be built. It was constructed by navvies between 1869 and 1876. In the summer of 2022 it dried up exposing a cracked mud bed. Lindley Wood acts to take in excess water from nearby Fewston and Swinsty Reserviors. As the country was in drought, there was no excess water to fill it.
