At the time of writing- very challenging path, avoid if with children

This is one of England's tallest remaining maypoles. It is a striped pole that stands over 20 metres high. It has been present since the days of Shakespeare, and its original incarnation was made of wood (until it was struck by lightning and destroyed). The current pole is made of aluminium and is officially a Grade II historical monument listed by English Heritage.

A recent "renovation" has covered half the Greenway (the half closer to Stratford) in loose pea gravel. It is an uncomfortable and unstable ride and very frustrating compared to the much nicer second half, even if the second half is narrower and has a few potholes here and there. Best to come prepared for that.

The longest canal aqueduct in England is said to be 145m long and was built between 1793 and 1812. The iron canal is navigated by narrow, purpose-built ships and the locks are operated by hand. There is a small parking lot below the viaduct. From there you can take a staircase directly to the canal.

Quite busy with walkers at weekends. Speed limited to 5mph with some narrow sections.

Good for leisure cycling. Traffic free connection between Meon Vale and Stratford. From here plenty of routes into the Northern Cotswolds open up. Not so suitable for sports cyclists, due to the track surface and the mixed use.

Great views over the racecourse from the Greenway. Nice benches so you can sit and admire the view or even watch the racing if you are very lucky.

Quirky converted train carriage that's a great little cafe. Well placed on the Stratford-upon-Avon Greenway just outside Stratford. Closed on Mondays but open 9am to 4pm every other day.

Edstone Aqueduct (southern end) is a major waterways place on the Stratford-on-Avon Canal (Southern Section) between Yarningale Aqueduct (4 miles and 2¾ furlongs and 6 locks to the northeast) and Featherbed Bridge No 59 (Wilmcote village on east bank) (2 miles to the south). It is at one end of Edstone Aqueduct. The nearest place in the direction of Yarningale Aqueduct is Edstone Aqueduct (northern end); ¾ furlongs away. The nearest place in the direction of Featherbed Bridge No 59 is Edstone Footbridge No 57; 2 furlongs away.

Good path for anything other than a road bike. Although it is totally possible on a roady, it feels as though the puncture fairy could strike at anytime. It can also get a little busy.

The Greenway stretches for around 5½ miles, from the bridge over the River Avon on Seven Meadows Road, past the car park, and along the dismantled railway bed to Station Road, Long Marston.
