Moreton Paddox was the name of a country manor house which stood in this area until 1959 when it was demolished. It was a grand house with formal gardens and an ornamental lake, although little evidence remains.

A recent "renovation" has covered half the Greenway (the half closer to Stratford) in loose pea gravel. It is an uncomfortable and unstable ride and very frustrating compared to the much nicer second half, even if the second half is narrower and has a few potholes here and there. Best to come prepared for that.

The Hall was built in the reign of Charles I and throughout its chequered history has seen calamitous events including being extensively damaged from a gunpowder explosion in 1643. Just over a century later the Hall was actually pulled down but re-built the following year. In 1863 major alterations resulted in a Hall very much as you see it today. Ill fate dogged it again in 1946 when fire, started from a cigarette, completely gutted the beautifully proportioned Ballroom, when a valuable painting by Gainsborough of David Garrick was destroyed. The Town Hall houses many interesting and historic paintings and treasures and it is unsurprising that today smoking is definitely not permitted. The longest canal aqueduct in England is said to be 145m long and was built between 1793 and 1812. The iron canal is navigated by narrow, purpose-built ships and the locks are operated by hand. There is a small parking lot below the viaduct. From there you can take a staircase directly to the canal.

Green Lane Bridge No 51 is a minor waterways place on the Stratford-on-Avon Canal (Southern Section) between Yarningale Aqueduct (2 miles and 3 furlongs and 5 locks to the northeast) and Edstone Aqueduct (southern end) (1 mile and 7¾ furlongs and 1 lock to the south). The nearest place in the direction of Yarningale Aqueduct is Preston Hill Farm Bridge No 50; 2¼ furlongs away. The nearest place in the direction of Edstone Aqueduct (southern end) is Footbridge No 52; 2¼ furlongs away.

Quite busy with walkers at weekends. Speed limited to 5mph with some narrow sections.

nice, quiet roads to relax on

Draycote Water is an artificial reservoir (23 million m3), which was completed in 1969. In addition to its function as a water reserve, it is a leisure park u.a. for anglers, sailors, hikers. The rich bird life invites also to observations. Swimming is not allowed in the lake.

Good quality bridleway through fields.

The Hatton locks consists of 21 locks with a total rise of 45m.

It’s s a bit rough as horse have used it when it was wet and muddy but is worth the ride. You can get off for Hatton and Hatton locks.

Excellent 8km cycling with great views and rest areas.

Great food and lovely people.
