Gnandstein Castle is located in the Kohrener Land, about 40 kilometers from Leipzig and only a few kilometers from Frohburg. Gnandstein is one of the oldest knight's castles in Saxony. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking and relaxing. The village of Kohren-Sahlis is a must for all friends of beautiful blue and white ceramics. You can also buy some beautiful pieces in the village of Gnandstein, in the restaurant at the foot of the castle. The castle was built in the 12th century, but not to secure the town, but to protect the traffic connections, for example to Rochlitz, later Colditz, Leisnig and one of the most important trade routes from Leipzig to Prague. The town of Gnandstein and the town of Frohburg were under the diocese of Naumburg/Zeitz until the time of the Reformation. The historians suspect that Gnandstein was greatly expanded, especially in the 13th century, making Gnandstein one of the safest castles in the Pleissenland. http://burgentouren-sachsen.de/seiten/burgen/gnandstein/burggnandstein.htm

The castle was built as a Romanesque complex at the beginning of the 13th century. The keep was built in the middle of the 13th century. The castle chapel was built around 1500. The interior was completely redesigned at the beginning of the 18th century. In the years 1994–2004 the castle was restored. Today it houses a museum. A recommended visit.

Gnandstein Castle is a former manor with a historic courtyard garden, first mentioned in 1486. The striking half-timbered house for the gardener (built in the 18th century) was used to overwinter the southern potted plants, which were then fashionable. After several fires, the farm buildings were rebuilt in the 19th century. The stairway to the castle was built with Rochlitz pophyr and sandstone as an unusual staircase to the guest house and the forecourt of the castle. The way to the castle is a bit steep and exhausting for people who have difficulty walking. There is a restaurant in the courtyard garden at the top of the castle. (Unfortunately the event was closed today, which could have been written down below). But there were plenty of options for dining at the foot of the castle. For children, there is a fairy tale garden (over 1500 square meters) across from the parking lot.

Nice view of the Rochsburg. It's also always worth taking a look, especially because of the chocolate.
