On the east side there is an alternative route up to the fort which also passes through a short section of iron path and a long, slender ladder that overcomes a wall of about fifteen metres.

As of September 2025: the roads are now pretty washed out, and riding a road bike is more of a struggle than a pleasure. With 28 mm, I barely made it through with only one flat tire. For those who like to take risks or ride gravel bikes, the view is definitely worth it!

An excellent restaurant for enjoying typical Brescian mountain cuisine: homemade gnocchi with porcini mushrooms, pasta with Bagoss cheese, venison stew, casoncelli alla bresciana, and much more. E-bike rentals are available at the restaurant's adjacent facility (E-bike Dosso Alto). You can also charge your e-bike during lunch or coffee. (I recharged my legs instead.)

The road that descends to Bagolino initially is a non-cyclable path for a third of the way. Watch out for surprises.

The Rifugio Monte Stino, at 1,437 m, is nestled in the Val Sabbia, between Lake Idro and Lake Garda. Opened in 2014, it offers typical local cuisine and large outdoor spaces. There is no possibility of overnight stay. Next to the refuge is the Chiesetta degli Alpini. It is open all year round, but to book and check openings I recommend visiting the refuge website: https://www.facebook.com/people/Rifugio-Monte-Stino

Great views, if you go via Santuario Rio Secco - Capovalle there is no car traffic
