In the center of town, on the right bank of the Martesana Canal, stands an imposing waterwheel (popularly known as a rudun) said to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci himself. Despite appearances, the wheel is not a mill, but a noria. Its function, in fact, was never to grind grain or power machinery, but rather to lift water from the canal to channel it into an irrigation system.

Located in a quiet area, in the countryside, it has a small park equipped with tables and benches. There's also a fountain: refresh yourself, but be careful, as the water is not drinkable.

WARNING: Since I last passed through (early spring), the canal's course has been altered, and the footbridge has been moved a few dozen meters. Now, however, it's poorly secured to the ground and decidedly rickety: I can't imagine what it will be like this winter when it's wet and muddy...

In this stretch, the Vacchelli Canal crosses the Moso Agricultural Park, passing through cultivated fields and rows of poplars. The dirt bike path runs alongside the water on a smooth surface, ideal for gravel and trekking bikes. Pedaling here immerses you in the rural landscape of Crema, with views that change with the seasons.

Originally dedicated to San Marco, it was dedicated to Santa Caterina in honor of the mother of the Alpine lieutenant Marcantonio Vimercati Sanseverino, whose remains were transferred here in 1951

I started from Palazzo Pignano, a nice route, not too demanding, a bit tortuous, from Agndello to Spino, a bit of tall grass, hoping they will cut it down soon, then it goes back again, a nice route

This is an imposing hydraulic wheel, popularly called “el rudun”. Appearances immediately make one think of a large mill, just like those in advertisements. In reality, technically it is a “noria”: its function has never been to grind cereals or move machinery, but rather to lift the water of the Naviglio to convey it into an irrigation system.
