  Part 2. We wanted to climb the southern section of the coast from the Rau Santa Caterina river, but soon realised that the beach had been completely covered with round stones due to coastal protection measures. The climb was originally possible via a path, but later it was clearly marked as private. With great effort we were able to get onto the old, heavily overgrown thorn bushes off the path and continue upwards. There we were finally confronted with several barrier fences running across the path, weighted down with stones to keep them on the ground. This was a clear sign that this natural area is being protected. We accept that it is important to preserve sensitive natural areas, even if this means that we are denied the breathtaking views of the bay. The Sa Mora tower was built on the place known in 1578 as "Monte delle Saline di Oristano" or also with the name "Capitis Magni seu Salinarum", today called "Matta 'e sa figu" (fig tree). The current name "Sa Mora" appeared in 1639 together with the similar "Puerto de la Mora", the ancient name of Cala Saline or Porto Mandriola. As with many of Sardinia's coastal towers, the view is astonishing.

Santa Caterina di Pittinuri sits on spectacular cliffs, surrounded by the green reliefs of Montiferru and watched over by the sixteenth-century Pittinuri tower, from which its name derives, which dominates the promontory to the north of the village. In addition to the village, an inlet of limestone rocks welcomes and protects this beach with golden, reddish and black pebbles. The sea is transparent and shallow, making it suitable even for the little ones. The views from the beach are stunning, especially of the cliffs on both sides.
