A bit bumpy here and there. But it's a nice paved and quiet bike path. A nice change from racing through Boornbergum.

At the beginning of the last century, the skûtsjes (small barges) waited in the harbor of Smalle Ee to receive a precious cargo of white sand, dug from the rising terrain surrounding the village. This sand was transported to the harbor on horse-drawn lorries. Even earlier, barge operators had a permanent mooring here, and the harbor was one of the most important in Friesland. Originally, the harbor was more than five times larger, and several buildings stood around it. Today, the picturesque harbor still serves as a mooring for various recreational boats. The antique cobblestones and the old, tall trees give it a rustic appearance.

The forest at Olterterp is a peaceful nature reserve with dense trees, winding paths and a rich biodiversity. This green refuge is perfect for walks and bike rides, where you can enjoy the serene surroundings and the whistling of birds. De Leijen (Frisian and officially: De Leien) is a lake in the province of Friesland (Netherlands), located between Oostermeer (Eastermar) and Opeinde (De Pein). It was created by peat mining and is therefore shallow in many places. A canal runs through the lake, connecting the Opeindervaart with Opeinde on the Lits to Eastermar and Rottevalle (De Rottefalle). On the east side of the lake there is a beach with catering and camping. The lake and its shores mostly belong to the Staatsbosbeheer. De Leijen is known as a nature reserve with many special bird colonies. It gave a boost to tourism on and around Leijen. The nature reserve is increasingly being converted into a recreational lake. However, due to the many islands, sandbanks and shipping canals, the lake is less suitable for sailors and windsurfers. Very beautiful nature and cycle paths.
