Since 1893, it has stood there, red, serene, with a dignity that speaks both of splendor and suffering. Oriental, neo-Gothic, Jewish – and yet quintessentially Pilsen. It is one of the largest synagogues in the world. Within, the light whispers, as if it knows what has been lost. And outside, life passes by, reverently, sometimes carelessly. Yet it remains.
