While hiking near the coast of Hasle, make a point to visit the Hasle Smokehouse (Hasle Silderøgeri) for a delicious local experience. You can't miss the vibrant white chimneys standing tall against the sky. Sample some of the island's famous smoked herring, known as "Bornholmer" in Denmark and take a break to enjoy a delicious taste of the island's fishing history, which is still a big part of the local culture.

If you’re continuing on the cycle path towards Allinge, be prepared for a steep section just after Ginesmine, where the paved road ends. The path climbs at a 22% incline for about 200 meters. There are stairs with a bike ramp, so you can push your bike up, but it’s no fun with a fully loaded touring setup.

St. Nicholas' Church, the largest church on the island of Bornholm, is located on a hill directly by the harbor of Rønne. With its dominant position in the cityscape, the church has become a landmark of Rønne. The first evidence of church construction on this site dates back to around 1275, when a small chapel was built here. Over time, it was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded. In 1550, a tower was built at the west end of the church, which was rebuilt in 1699. The current church is the result of extensive reconstruction between 1915 and 1918. At that time, most of the church was demolished and replaced with a new building. A small section of the foundation of the first chapel has been preserved on the north wall of the church. The consecration cross, beneath which 63 old coins were immured, also dates from this period. The most beautiful hiking trails, such as the yellow route, are here. For me, as a senior citizen with unsteady footing, good hiking poles are a must.
