Starting around 1560, Celle's town hall was built by master masons Jakob Rieß and Frederic Soltersborg from Salzburg, incorporating Gothic elements from a previous building. The central eastern gable dates from 1562, and the northern decorative gable dates from 1579. The building underwent numerous additions and modifications in the following centuries: a simple brick structure, the so-called "Wedding House," was added between 1580 and 1593, and the courtroom porch dates from 1599. A loft at the southern end was added at the beginning of the 17th century. A neoclassical remodeling followed in 1785, and in 1938 the building was extended by two axes to the south. Very nice for a bike path along a main road. However, for those sensitive to noise, I recommend the dirt road route through the forest. This is only slightly longer, easily navigable in dry weather, and the road noise is inaudible.

It characterizes the region's landscape with its natural riverbanks, wetlands, and diverse flora and fauna, providing a habitat for numerous waterfowl. The area surrounding the Aschau is popular with cyclists who enjoy the tranquil stream landscape and the combination of water, forests, and heathland. In addition to nature, traditional fish farming plays an important role along the Aschau, with freshly smoked fish from regional ponds attracting visitors. Thus, the Aschau combines nature-based experiences with regional culture and culinary delights, representing a central element of the Southern Heath.
