Chapel on the Ortenberg

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Afra stands in Obernheim, a municipality in the Zollernalb district of Baden-Württemberg. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The building is listed as a historical monument by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Baden-Württemberg. The hall church, originally built between 1753 and 1755 according to plans by Johann Caspar Bagnato, was incorporated into a new building in 1924 as a transept, based on a design by Wilhelm Friedrich Laur. The former nave, spanned by a barrel vault, and the chancel are decorated with frescoes by Giuseppe Appiani. The Assumption of Mary is depicted in the nave, and the Trinity in the chancel. Four Church Fathers are depicted on the pulpit parapet, and Saint Wendelin on the sounding board. The organ on the gallery was built in 1973 as Opus 149 by Stehle Orgelbau. Summer & Winter

The highlight of the region and definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, it's closed on Thursdays and only open on weekends.

The 246-meter-high elevator test tower, opened in 2017, is specifically designed for the elevator technology of tomorrow: In the twelve shafts within the tower, which has a diameter of 21 meters, engineers can test elevators at dizzying speeds of up to 18 m/s. This tower will make Rottweil the center for the future of vertical passenger transportation.

Today (Sunday) we were lured by an alphorn player. Nice surprise.

Popular country inn with outdoor area and children's playroom in the basement. If you can't sit outside due to the weather, it's a good idea to make a reservation. The food was very good, the salads fresh and the service friendly and quick.

Beautiful country inn with 😋 food. Next door is a playground and several enclosures with goats, chickens and rabbits. Opposite the inn is a farm shop with local products. From here you can start numerous cycling and hiking tours. There is also a drinks machine.
