Imposing barrage on the Lech River. At barrage 22, the water is diverted from the Lech River to the Lochbach, where three additional, smaller weirs are located. On the northern edge of Augsburg, the wide, parallel Lech Canal branches off towards Meitingen and only flows back into the riverbed after more than 20 kilometers. Along this Lech Canal are three power plants built between 1898 and 1922 (Gersthofen, Langweid, and Meitingen canal power plants). The Sandauer Tor (Sandauer Gate) is a five-story gate tower dating from 1627/28 and marks the northern end of the city wall of Landsberg am Lech. The northern city wall dates back to the late Middle Ages and is still well preserved today – with towers, battlements, and battlements.
