This cycle path is part of the Geopark Railway Cycle Path. The Rennerod-Herborn section partially follows the former Westerwald-Querbahn and is around 28.3 km long. Mostly tarred, well developed and without any significant gradient (122 meters in total). Nicely done! https://www.routeyou.com/de-de/route/view/4364951

From the Westerwaldquerbahn cycle path you have a fantastic view over the fields to the Krombach Dam and the Krombach Reservoir. The dam is the highest point in a chain of five hydroelectric power stations. The lake itself offers water sports enthusiasts many opportunities, such as sailing, surfing and of course swimming.

Unfortunately it was very overgrown, there were endless stinging nettles. That burned my hands and legs.

If you can read the map even a little, you will notice that there is a beautiful paved path north of the Krombach Dam.

In the foreground is the very old stone bridge from 1448, one-way for cars, pedestrians and cyclists in both directions. Below the bridge upstream is the Runkel swimming pool and a lock for shipping. The castles of Runkel and Schadeck line the keeps to the left and right of the Lahn, with Runkel Castle making a better impression and being photographed the most.
