The Karl May Cave, also known as the Little Iron Cave, is located in the Waldenburg Upper Forest near Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Originally a mine tunnel dating back to 1620, it was later used as a shelter. In 1869, Karl May hid here when he was wanted for theft. Five years later, he mentioned the cave in his story "The Rose of Ernstthal." It was officially named after him in 1933. During the GDR era, it was closed to the public. Today, however, it can be easily visited again and serves as a reminder of the famous author.

On the right bank of the Zschopau, an impressive rock rises steeply out of the water. Of course - how could it be otherwise - there is a legend about a knight who was able to save himself from enemies by making a daring jump from the rock.

A beautiful cycle path, perhaps a little "over-maintained" because the sweepers and maintenance crews drive more often than on the road. Only the section between Riedstrasse and Rudolf-Krahl-Strasse is really finished, only the bridge over Kalkstrasse has not yet been started, or was it a victim of the "red pen"?! Instead, Kalkstrasse was narrowed so much at this point that car traffic is significantly slowed down, although a traffic light crossing just 100 metres earlier would have ensured cyclist safety! So let's wait and see when the "Wüstenbrand - Küchwald Premium Cycle Path" celebrates its final completion. There is no date to be found in the relevant media, let's hope that it is not an "unfinished" one!
