THE HALL GARDEN South of the abbey's refectory and banqueting hall building, the so-called "Hall Garden" extends over two terraces. It is distinguished by two single-axis pavilions on the sides, a three-axis grotto on the retaining wall of the terraced terrace, and a three-axis pavilion accentuating the central axis at the end of the garden. The planning of this partial garden dates back to the reign of Abbot Joseph Hartmann, who entrusted the overall management of the terraced garden to the architect and sculptor Franz Joseph Roth, originally from Vienna and now based in Mergentheim. The Hall Garden has been closed to the public for several years. It is scheduled to undergo extensive renovation in the coming years. This will primarily involve the restoration of the walls. A total of four construction phases are planned. The final phase is scheduled to take place next year at the earliest and will include the renovation of the grotto. Wertheim Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a high, narrow promontory between the two valleys of the Main and Tauber rivers above the town of Wertheim. It is one of the oldest castle ruins in Baden-Württemberg. Wertheim Castle was first documented in 1183 and, "starting from the upper castle, was expanded over several construction periods into a spacious castle complex until its destruction in the Thirty Years' War." The keep (around 1200) and the palace from the second third of the 13th century still stand from the upper castle. Adjacent to the palace is another residential building, in which remnants of an older structure have been preserved. The town was a "planned foundation at the foot of the castle." Construction of the city fortifications must have begun as early as 1200; they eventually enclosed the castle and town with a ring of walls. Source: Wikipedia

The new Main Bridge ("Höchheimer Steg") between Veitshöchheim and Margetshöchheim was officially opened to pedestrians and cyclists on November 5, 2024, after four years of construction. Margetshöchheim Mayor Waldemar Brohm and his Veitshöchheim colleague Jürgen Götz officially opened it during a small ceremony. The Höchheimer Steg crosses the federal waterway Main and connects the two communities of Margetshöchheim and Veitshöchheim at km 244.4 of the Main River. The bridge is a cable-stayed bridge (anchored suspension bridge with two pylons) with a usable width of 3.00 meters and a railing height of 1.30 meters. The total length is 311.00 meters, and the suspension bridge itself is 112.00 meters long. The bridge has no obstructive piers in the Main River. Since larger ships now operate on the Main, the old Ludwig-Volk-Steg (commissioned on July 24, 1967) was no longer considered stable in the event of a collision with the pier foundations. On January 20, 2025, the old Ludwig-Volk-Steg was closed after almost 58 years. Work began in February 2025 to prepare for the dismantling of the Ludwig-Volk-Steg. The dismantling was completed in June 2025.
