Very beautiful castle ruins with free admission. There's also an observation tower. From the top, you can get a great view of the entire surrounding area and the ruins. There's also a stamp station here. The route to the castle is strenuous if you're traveling by bike.

The stamping point 99 of the Harz hiking pin is very different from most: a large walk-in steam locomotive with a wooden carriage. The stamping box is in the wooden steam locomotive. The stamping point is on the Galgenberg near Neustadt and from here you have a beautiful view of the Hohnstein castle ruins and the karst landscape. In addition to the great view, the stamping point is of course also a great resting place! The stamping point is part of the Südharzer Dampflok Steig, which I can also highly recommend!

According to legend, the Grasburg in the forest area known as Old Stolberg between Stempeda and Rottleberode in the southern Harz Mountains is the ancestral castle of the Counts of Stolberg.

Stamping point 99 / Harz wooden steam locomotive The Harz wooden steam locomotive with the HWN 99 is on the Galgenberg near Neustadt The South Harz steam locomotive trail meanders through the South Harz Nature Park for almost 42 kilometers. It overcomes a good 2000 meters in altitude, offers some fascinating views of the Harz foothills and wanders through the pleasant mixed deciduous forests in the north of Thuringia. The stage from Neustadt to Nordhausen takes you through the unique South Harz karst landscape with a Mediterranean flair. In contrast to the other two stages of the South Harz steam locomotive trail, it mainly goes through open, wide areas. There is little forest, but there is a huge wooden steam locomotive, an oak tree that is more than 600 years old and a landscape that is reminiscent of Tuscany in Italy. From Neustadt you hike up the Galgenberg, always following the red signs with the white steam locomotive.

The short way up is a bit exhausting, but there are plenty of benches along the way to take a breather!
